She was his best friend and he was hers. They were different from others as would their definition of best friends. They stood by each other day to day to day for almost five years. Against the odds of their culture and society, they looked like a couple in reality. However, they were themselves 110%. Sure, there was a certain attraction, one to another, what with infatuation of teenagers. And they made a promise with each other to be best friends forever, as would any others.
There was once he asked her to be his girlfriend. Out of shock and uncertainty, she turned him down instantaneously saying they were just best friends. And then, came the day when he and she both grew more mature. He had a girlfriend who would pass as a supermodel. That however, did not last long. During his first vacation overseas, his girlfriend cheated on him with a friend he was close to.
At that time, he was really hurt deep down inside. She, stood by his side and hated her for hurting him. A few months later, he started seeing another girl but hid it from her. She was hanging out with some other friends when she saw it. He was holding his new girlfriend's hand walking pass her like she was nobody.
She felt hurt. But forgave him anyways. He was still her best friend, no more and no less.
'How could he have gotten over the other girl so soon?' she asked herself privately, not wanting it to slip. But it seems, no matter how sensitive a guy may be, he is still a guy and will continue acting like one. She made up her mind that day that all guys are the same.
And soon, his relationship with his new girlfriend became known and stable. He started spending more time with his girlfriend, but forgot to remember her. But she stood by him anyways, hoping he would come along. He was her best friend, no more no less.
She wanted him for herself, but realized that it is not possible. The day she harden her heart, no one knew, not even herself. And then he remembered her, and started to spend time with her. It was only natural to develop envy and jealousy towards another. He thought he knew nothing about her, but in fact, he knew everything. Precisely as it is. But he did not believe her for what she said, thinking others know better.
Truth be told, she did not know him. She never knew him. They just cliqued.
His girlfriend is one of those jealous types, even though she was promised by her that she would not steal him from her. She did not believe her. His girlfriend wanted them to stop seeing each other.
Their best-friend-relationship soon came on rocky grounds. She was no longer comfortable with him saying the things he used to say.
But they pressed on, and made it through day to day. Seeing him, made her smile. Seeing her, made him stay on cloud nine.
Then came the day, it was like any other day. But he was going to meet her friends whom he's heard all about. They were both happy and chattering.
The day went by smoothly and everyone was happy. And then came evening where she went back to his house. Although they have been best friends for a long time, they have never been to each others houses. Going to his house was a mistake for her.
No, nothing happened between them.
They had an awesome time. He teased her for wearing a dress as he always did. Then, she left to a party, she never intended to go in the first place, alone.
They were text messaging each other throughout her journey. When she finally arrived, these weird text messages arrived. Reading the first one made her heart break. The ones further on made her cry. But he knew nothing of it, as he too was crying.
That same day, he "broke off" their friendship, so to avoid his girlfriend being jealous. He sent almost ten different messages explaining the same thing.
Although he regretted saying all he said, there was no way of it all being taken back. She never told him if she cried. Numerous times he said he was crying and hoped he could take it all back but he also said he knew he could not. And he was right.
She had teary eyes when she left the party, not wanting others to know her feelings. She said she had gastric and left as soon as she could.
She got out of her dress and straight into the shower. Tears streaming down her face. She sighed.
That was the end of their friendship. As he was accused of never giving his girlfriend all his heart and leaving some to her. It was the end.
What's left, was nothing more than two broken hearts. Crying silently herself, she decided to walk away. She knew now she had to go through life without him. Forcing smiles at others so that they would not know the pain she felt inside again.
